Community Council

The Community Council has existed for a number of years in order to raise funds which are used for entertainment, enjoyment and increasing and improving the amenities of the village.

There is a committee which meets at regular intervals to organise a range of events, discuss suggestions and come up with new ideas. Anyone resident in the village is eligible and welcome to attend, participate and offer their services, expertise and time.

In the past the Committee has organised quizzes, fetes, beetle drives, bingo, film shows, archive days, cheese and wine parties, wine tasting, discos, a ceilidh and classical concerts. New, viable ideas are always welcome!

The two main events during the year are the Annual Village Fete which takes place on August Bank Holiday Saturday and the Autumn Fayre known as MAFAFAM (Middleton and Fordley Annual Food and Music) each October. These take place either in the centre of the village at the Bell Inn on its meadow or at the playing field. The funds raised finance an annual Christmas Party for the senior citizens and other residents, an annual Christmas outing/party  or voucher for the children of the village and also purchase items for use by the community at large.

To date purchases include, tables and chairs for the village hall, a barbeque, gazebos, a croquet set and line marker, urns, cricket equipment, a cricket/croquet shed on the Playing Field, infant swings, bursaries for young adults and sponsoring a St George’s Day Mummers Play and Archive events, a Boules taster session and supporting the WW1 commemorative event.

New members are always welcome. Anyone who can help on an occasional basis particularly the Fete and Autumn Fayre, can contact any of the committee below.
