Beaux Belles Petanque Team
The Beaux Belles team entered the Suffolk Coastal League in 2010.
The season begins in early March and continues until August when divisional and league play-offs take place.
There are nearly forty teams in the whole league which stretches from the outskirts of Ipswich up to the Waveney Valley. Teams are divided into relatively close geographical areas and matches usually take place on Sunday mornings.
There is a core of eight regular players but there is always room for occasional players and to date up to fourteen have participated at different times.
A team can have between four and eight players who play in pairs. There is a match subscription of £1 which is used to pay the annual registration fee and goes towards maintenance of the ‘terrain’ on the Bell Inn Meadow, small pieces of equipment and occasionally trophies.
Matches are organised by a league secretary and take place every two or three weeks on a home and away basis so that the whole season has a maximum of twelve games.
Friendlies are few and far between which reflects the busy lives of the participants, however the pitch is always there and anyone, with permission of the landlord at the pub, can enjoy a game as basic equipment is kept in the pub store.
In 2014 a Village tournament was introduced (which has attracted up to 48 participants) and is comprised of a singles and doubles section. This begins at the end of June and the finals take place towards the end of August when the finalists compete for trophies and a small prize pot. (on hold for the moment)
